Dixie Canyon Avenue School PTA PTA FOR DIXIE CANYON WELCOMES YOU TO DIXIE CANYON!!!

For families new to the school, you've come to Dixie at an exciting time. Over the summer, we raised $10,000 which was generously matched by The Friedman Foundation (4 to 1 matching) to build a new $50,000 technology computer lab.

In 2005, the goal for building a brand new library through the Wonder of Reading program was successfully achieved! Your children will also benefit from a new blacktop, yard and a wonderful playground. Our playground is the result of some very impressive teamwork from the Dixie community! A former parent wrote and nurtured a grant request through the Anne and Kirk Douglas Playground Program, and Dixie's parents, students and staff worked tirelessly to raise the matching funds required by the grant - over $40,000!

You will also see the SAS (School for Advanced Studies) program, which has been very successful at Dixie for the last several years.

Your children will get a chance to participate in some of the fantastic elective programs supported by the Dixie community: our wonderful theatre arts program with Drama Sue, the Dixie Computer Lab, and our fabulous physical education coach. You will see Dixie's dedication to the arts further reflected in our Visual Arts program run by Kathy Barbro. All of these programs help make Dixie a very special place for children and they're a reality because of the incredible support of parents like you!

We make a real difference at Dixie and your involvement matters!

We're always looking for a few good men and women (OK, more than a few!) that feel strongly enough about ensuring a great school to give of themselves. We're about TEAMWORK, COMMITMENT, and HAVING FUN in the process. We want people to explore their interests and their strengths and let PTA for Dixie make use of those talents. We could really use your help with fundraising (of course!), corporate sponsorship, publicity, gardening, printing or any area where you think you can contribute. We're always open to new ideas. We are also on the lookout for potential art and music docents. Our group is vibrant, strong and active - this is your opportunity to shine! Please join us and show your stuff in a whole new WAY!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact any of your PTA for Dixie board members listed on the PTA Board members tab at any time, or call the Hotline at 818-978-2728. We are here with you and for you.

* PTA is Building Stronger Home/School Connections
It is important for home and school to work together to help children successfully adjust to the early elementary grades in order to fully benefit from new school experiences. PTAs serve as a forum where parents, teachers, administrators, and other concerned adults discuss ways to promote quality education, strive to expand the arts, encourage community involvement, and work for a healthy environment and safe neighborhoods. Being involved in PTA allows parents to interact with the teachers and school administration. We are all there for the education of our children and that gives us a respect for each other and the jobs we are trying to do for our students. The ultimate goal for everyone is to see our children mature into productive and happy members of society. We all win when that happens.
