We all want the opportunity to buy cool stuff and raise lots of money for the continuation of our enrichment and other school programs. Therefore, we still need your help to bring donated items for our annual auction. Now is the time to ask your friends, neighbors, employers, vendors and anyone else if they'd like to make a tax-deductible contribution to our fabulous school auction and be acknowledged as a Dixie partner.
We would love to have more volunteers to go out and "hit the streets." If you think you can help with the auction, especially solicitation, corporate sponsorship, basket making and other areas of volunteering, or have any questions, please get in touch with the Auction Committee (information in sidebar). Also, feel free to download the donation form to secure your donation. Please share the Information Card with your donor as you solicit items.

WHAT IS A SILENT AUCTION?
Unlike a live auction, a silent auction is a bidding process in which participants are given an extended period of time to look at all the auction items and bid on items of interest on paper. All of the silent auction items will be displayed on tables in a designated area. Each item will have a bid sheet in front of it which will describe details of the item as well as the starting bid for that item. The starting bid is set at approximately one-third of the retail value of the item. For example, the bidding on a $75.00 gift certificate to a restaurant will begin at $25.00.
Minimum dollar bidding increments may now come into play. As the first bidder moves on to look at other items, a second interested individual may come along and outbid the first bidder by writing down their name, or bidding number, and higher bid amount following the minimum dollar bidding increments stated on each bid sheet. These increments generally occur in amounts of $10.00 or $15.00, but a single bid can exceed the minimum bid by a lot or a little.
This is a friendly process and there are many, many items available. It is not uncommon for people to bid on several items. The highest bidder wins. Two caveats. First, you need to monitor and keep track of your bids when placing bids on multiple items and make sure you want the items if you write your name and bid amount down! And second, keep checking in on the item(s) you really want toward the end so you aren't outbid.
Most of all, this event is fun! There are also raffle tickets for those who want to purchase and sit back and relax, or those who want to hit the dance floor until the raffle numbers are called. A person does not have to be present to win a raffle prize.
Don't forget the Live Auction if you or your guests enjoy participating in very lively, active bidding for incredible items.
Auction items won must be taken with you at the end of the night.
